I have problem opening file by clicking on file. please help

I have problem opening file by clicking on file at desktop or from any
folders, only way I can open file first I have to open program excel than
open from file manu. I tried to reinstall ofiice xp, also I tried to
reinstall office 2003. but still does not work. can you tell me why? and how
can I fix this problem

Click on Tools, then Options, select the General tab, and untick the option
Ignore other programs
