Why do so many people fail to use the shift key when posting a message?

It seems to me that if they want their message read, they would want to
make it easy to read. Ignoring the accepted conventions of capitalization
(THIS ALSO ENCLUDES ALL CAPS) just does not seem to make sense. Are people
really that lazy.

The people who do it will never see your message.

These people are that lazy or they would use Google or the search tools for
these forums to find the answer for what they are asking (and that has been
asked - usually - 10 times in the last hour.)

I know of a lot of people that don't feel ALL CAPS is rude - it was how they
were taught to distinguish IMPORTANT things from the unimportant ones in the
days before HTML/Rich Text emails. They were taught wrong, in my opinion.
And even with that teaching, putting everything in all caps is ridiculous -
it isn't ALL that important.

So, in short, yes - people are that lazy. If they were not they would
already have the answers (in most cases) that they are seeking here. I
realize some will say "not everyone is a computer guru" - fine. However,
you cannot tell me they have not heard of yahoo searches or google
searches.. You cannot watch TV without seeing commercials for one or the
other. If they got to these newsgroups through the web interface, it
actually points out how to search - so they should know how to do that.
They probably learned to search (research) in some school somewhere at some
point - so yes - they are that lazy. They learned to turn on the computer,
they should be able to learn how to use it properly.

Hi Joseph,

If your reference is to the subject line, think about it for a moment.
Everyone thinks their post is the most important one in the group. If they
are all capitalized, which one does the reader choose first?

If you are talking about the body of the message, I, and most others, find
all cap's difficult to read and hard on the eyes. I and will often skip the
message.

Some people may not be quite the accompished typists that others are, some
don't have the skills to form a proper sentence, some can do one, but not
the other, and cetainly not both.

Some people come here to ask what is to be found by doing a Google search,
or an MSKB search, but don't, because, believe it or not, there is a human
connection to be found here. Sometimes, not as kind or helpful as they hope
for.

So, you have a point?

People that don't use the shift key tend not to write capitals either
because they don't understand the use of them. Add to that the teacher
telling them that 'grammar and spelling doesn't matter, the fact that you
gotten your thoughts down in writing is good' makes the problem worse.

I would like to address some of the questions that have come up in
several replies.

First "ENCLUDES" Typical example of my un-corrected spelling. It did
get past my spell checker since professionally I have to deal with so many
acronyms that I have my spell check set to ignore all caps.

The use of the period rather than a question mark; was nothing less than
an error on my part. I make many.

Frankly I don't have a problem with people who don't know better, or who
make errors from time to time, but it would seem to me that all those people
who ignore the shift key can't possible not know better or just be making a
error, often many times in the same message.

My spelling and grammar are far from great but I do try. It seems these
people just don't try.

You have all made some good points, and I fear that we are not likely to
see any change soon.

I hope you all had a little fun.
