I get a ShelIconHide error every time I do a shutdown. It's driving me crazy.
It is supposed to close and shutdown, but instead it freezes and displays
this error. Then I have to kill it to be able to shutdown the computer.
Please help.

How is this Outlook related?

ok... this relates to Outlook 2003. This outlook comes with a feature that
you minimize the program to an icon on the system tray. That's the only thing
that I could imagine that could be causing a problem...

Don't you close your applications first before shutting your computer?

Nope... When I had the older version, it would just close itself as every
single other aplication like messenger, word, ezdental, norton antivirus,
etc... thanks for your interest and let me tell you that you are quite smart
to figure out that I wasn't taking the time to close it before shutting
down...

You're welcome! :-)

Although it works for most appliactions and that Windows is quite capable of
closing applications properly before shutting down it doens't mean that it
is the proper way of shuting down your computer. Think about applications
that will prompt you for something (like saving a modified document) before
closing. In this case Windows will not close the application but kill it and
it will lead to possible loss of data. Outlook is one of those applications
that does not like to be killed. This is because the pst-file is a database
file that needs to be closed properly. When Outlook is killed you should
check the pst-file for errors with scanpst.exe (in some cases Outlook 2003
will do this automatically).
