I am running internet explorer 6 on XP pro and have lost
my menu bar and the ability to right click on menu
(missing) or tool bar for customize options. When i first
bring explorer up a little windows flag in an empty bar
appear then disapear. Now i am left with my tool bar that
i can't customize do to my right mouse not functioning
here. I should point out that right mouse does function
every where except explorer or internet explorer. Also
explorer and internet explorer are so tightly linked that
the problem is in both (ha ha both! same darn app!)
programs. I have since done a reg clean and spybot to try
to see if some stupid spyare has installed itself (none
did). Any insight would help i don't want to reload my
entire system.

Most likely you're in "full screen" mode, to maximize
your work space. F11 usually is the hot-key to turn the
menubar on and off.

That said, there are those obnoxious web sites that like
to turn it off for you, and I'm not sure if they have a
way of locking that down or not. If all else fails (the
above suggestion), you may have to look for registry
tricks from MS themselves.

I tried f11 and got no result. The lockdown is consistant
and doesn't vary at all from site to site. Did i mention
that explorer even looking in my computer has the same
symtoms. I also tried to /uninstall/reinstall IE but no
change. I also tried to do a fresh install off of a
maximum pc disk but of coarse windows exited setup saying
i had the newest version already on my system(i wish when
you uninstalled a microsoft product the registry would
clean itself.)

I am having a similar problem. In 'full screen mode' I am
unable to move any of the toolbar items. I can right
click, however, and remove and add items, but they plant
themselves to the far right of the toolbar. The address
bar is so far to the right (next to the microsoft globe)
that all I can read is 'Address', NO ADDRESSES SHOW!!!
Clicking and dragging doesn't work, it is just stuck there
and useless. Thought is was a problem with 6.0 so I
uninstalled it and went back to 5.5, problem persists.
Any ideas out there for us????
Thanks Joe

hmmmmmm...

Well, I found what I believe to be the entry for that in
the registry. It's under
hek_current_user\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Main and is called FullScreen. Mine is set
to "no". Check to see what yours is.

I wonder if you've been hijacked. Other than forcing the
change like I just mentioned, my next attack on MY
machine would be to find spyware detectors and look for
viruses. I detest that setting.

The only other thing that occured to me is if the window
is "off the screen"?? I mean, by default, you should
have at least a close button (X), but if that's not
showing...? IE will, by default, open to the same
location it was closed from last, and I know that there
are times I've had apps that open off screen - show on
the task bar, but I have to right-click, choose move, and
drag my mouse for them to appear. Maybe something like
this? It's a really really far fetched idea, but
still.....

Good luck! That's kind of strange.

Well I found your keys and mine was set to no on full
screen mode. Next i took it one step further and created a
bianary entry called Show_MenuBar and set the value to yes
but it made no differance. Any more ideas? This system is
so loaded i really don't want to reload it.
