I had to reinstall XP. I need to know how to NOT have a password. It is only
my husband & I at home, and we both share the same email account, & have
nothing to hide from one another. Please tell me how to do w/o a password. I
have already left the area BLANK in this Internet Options window: Internet
Email server: xxx.x.x.x; User Name: (e-mail address removed); Password-BLANK. Why
does it continue to ask for a password? I previously used Express, but
changed to Outlook 2000 when reinstalled XP - & I correctly Imported my email
& Address book. With Express I didn't have to type in a password-which is the
way we want it now. I can't get my email this morning. Please help! Thank you.

Because, your ISP needs a PASSWORD to log you on to your email account. You
MUST enter the password your ISP gave you when you set up the account.

Sheeeesh!

Well, you know what, Gordon? When I was using Express I DID NOT have to ever
enter a password! I clicked on a radio button (in Options) to not have
Express ask for a password. Sorry to piss you off.

Well you MUST have done at the very beginning. There is NO ISP on this
planet that lets you access their mail server WITHOUT entering a password at
some point. You might have had it done automatically for you if you used
some setup program provided by the ISP, but I can assure you, you NEED A
PASSWORD in some form or other.
Sorry to piss you off even more.

Gordon, I guess you were not able to read my 2nd sentence: "I clicked on a
radio button (in Options) to not have Express ask for a password." Thanks for
your reply.

What "radio button" in Options? QWhat Tab are you looking at? I'm using OE6
and there's NO "radio button" for "Password" in any tab in in Options.

To go back to your original post, and I quote:

You CANNOT access your ISP mail server WITHOUT A PASSWORD!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY
WON'T LET YOU!!!!!!!!
Trust me.

May I interject here as I think the two of you are talking at cross purposes!

Gordon is right that your ISP will demand a password to log into your mail,
but I think the question is really "why does Outlook keep asking for that
password?"

I think you need to go into the Email Accounts option on the tools menu in
Outlook and to the account you have set up to access your ISP. In there you
should find a tick box by vthe logon information that enables Outlook to
remember the password.

I hope this clears the confusion.

Because, from the original post reproduced below, the OP has left it BLANK!
That's why it keeps asking for a password!
