Gday E1 ,
For some reason I now have the XP log on screen at start up and it takes
me longer to start my computer . Can anyone tell me how to put it back to t
he way it was when i could just turn the pc on and it would start up fully by
itself without me having to log on ?
Bradley.

Having to log onto your system may be a slight inconvenience...but, it gives
you much added protection against those pesky HACKERS! I strongly recommend
you stick with the logon screen and choose a secure password!

How to turn on automatic logon in Windows XP:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=315231

[excerpt]

1.Click Start, and then click Run.
2.In the Open box, type control userpasswords2, and then click OK.
3.Clear the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer"
check box, and then click Apply.
4.In the Automatically Log On window, type the password in the Password box,
and then retype the password in the Confirm Password box.
5.Click OK to close the Automatically Log On window, and then click OK to
close the User Accounts window.

If you only have one user using the computer then you should have one
default profile.

Open the Control Panel, Select the User Accounts and then click the
option to change how users logon to this computer.

HTH

One added step, to ensure the user doesn't inadvertently select the Administrator account (highlighted by default on most systems).

1) Click Start, Run and enter CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2
2) Select the user account you want automatically logged on (this avoids the Administrator account being selected by default)
3) Uncheck Users must enter username and password..........
4) Click Apply
5) In the next dialog, enter the password, if any, for the account you chose in Step 2
6) Ok your way out

Thanks Doug. I usually include that info, but missed it this time.
