(Outlook 2000)

I've searched on everything I can think of in the
knowledge base, Outlook help, and the advanced search on
microsoft.com. All I want to do is change the most basic
preference in any e-mail program: set it to NOT check for
mail when it starts up.

Dumbfounded and dazed...

You've posted no information that would permit an answer.
Post your mail account type, Connection type, and automatic polling
settings.

Really? I said I'm running Outlook 2000, and I don't want it to check for
new mail when it starts up. I don't know what the settings are. That's the
problem. Do you know what setting to set or unset to make Outlook not check
for new mail when it starts? I'm not connecting to an Exchange server, only
POP3.

For example, in Outlook Express, on the first tab in the Options dialog
(General), there are two options:
- Send and receive messages at startup
- Check for new messages every ___ minute(s)

For example, in IncrediMail options there are two settings:
- Check for new messages every ___ minute(s)
- Check for new mail when opening IncrediMail

I'm looking for that same setting in Outlook 2000.

There are no settings expressly for that option. Whether Outlook polls on
launch depends on the connection type you set for your mail account and
whether you've set any Automatic Send/Receive intervals.
That is why I asked you those questions, which you have yet to answer.
Your turn.
