RE: WIN XP with latest SP2 Updates
Hi,

I suddenly see a golden colored icon in the shape of a shield, in the
Notification Area. I click on it and it tells me it is downloading,
and the percentage completed

Then it begins installing.....

Duh?..How can I tell if this is legit? Do I have any assurance that
some maniac is not causing me to accept a trojan horse or a virus or
whatever? What if it is something that I don't want to install? Where
are my options?

THANX
Mike

Turn off automatic updates in Control Panel > Automatic Updates

Go directly to the software manufactuerers' web sites to
obtain their lastest updates. This way, you're assured of
obtaining valid updates for your sytem and apps.

Good luck!
