I don't know how I disabled my command prompt, but can
someone tell me how to enable it again.

when I go into DOS the message says the command prompt
has been disabled by your administrator. I'm the
administrator...so what have I done?

Thanks,

Mark

There is no DOS in XP, but there is the Windows Command Processor
located as \%systemroot%\system32\cmd.exe

I am going to assume that you are using XP Pro.
(By the way, there is a built in Administrator account in XP Home and Pro)
Click on START
Click on RUN
Type in "gpedit.msc" (without quotes) and click OK
You are now in Group Policy Editor
Expand User Configuration
Expand Administrative Templates
Click on the System folder itself
In the right hand side look for:
"Prevent access to the command prompt"
You want to have the State for this to be set to "Not configured"
You can double click on it to bring up the properties window
so that you can make any necessary changes.
