My Quantex that had Win98se on it was so messed up that I
just formatted the c drive with format c: /s
I made what I thought was a reboot disk with copies of the
command.com and setup.com on it before I did it. after
the format I booted from the floppy in the a drive. I can
switch to c: under DOS and there is a command.com file
there but I can't do anything else. It will not recognize
the CD drive although when I reboot it does "access" it
somehow because the light comes on.
I can't reinstall the operating system if I can't get the
cd recognized.
Any helpful suggestions as to hwo I get myself out of this
mess? Thanks in advance.

Go to www.bootdisk.com and download a boot disk with CD support.

I forgot - since this is an XP newsgroup, I presume you have XP - an XP
CD is bootable, so you should be able to boot to the CD if you have that
option in your BIOS setup routine.

When you boot from a dos disk you have to load the drivers for the cdrom in
order for dos to see cd. The 98se and xp cd are bootable so just change
your bios to boot from the cd. Why are you posting questions about 98 in
the XP newsgroup?

You normally install XP by booting directly from the CD. Have you
gone to the BIOS setup program and changed the boot order to CD
first? If not, do so.
