I can't uninstall windows messenger!

I've just tried to uninstall windows messenger yet the msn green logo with
the red and white x on it, still is showing!.
 
While Pinto and F150 are both Ford products, they are not the same product.
Selling one does not mean that you have sold the other.
While Windows Messenger and MSN Messenger are both Microsoft products, they
are not the SAME product. Uninstalling one does not mean that you have
uninstalled the other.

Windows Messenger is bundled with, and is installed concurrently with,
Windows XP. It is not integral to Windows XP.

MSN Messenger is installed concurrently with, and is integral to, the MSN
software.

Wait! Are you saying that I can't uninstall windows messenger? So is it
possible to delete both of them and so it seems they are both separate
items.

I have Windows Messenger 4.6 installed under XP Home. I don't
know whether it can be uninstalled but I successfully stopped
it running using the procedure described in this link, under
the sub-heading "Windows Messenger 4.5 or later versions....":

Disable Messenger

Messenger. Alter your settings in the right pane. (For Pro)
--------------------------
Stop Windows Messenger from Auto-Starting

Simply delete the following Registry Key:

Immediately uninstalled Windows messenger upon install of XP w/SP1.
Installed XP SP2. ZA Pro indicated afterwards that msmsgs.exe was trying to
access the internet. I checked add/remove programs area, and found that
Windows messenger continued to indicate not installed. Resorted to using
"find" in regedit, and removed the key you indicated lastly in your reply.
Apparently, it works.

Am very careful and well-protected user both on the internet, and
determining if I want to install software. MS is among the trusted of my
narrow group for this. The question is, why and how did that entry get into
the registry?

Please quit posting the same questions/issues using different names and
stick to the threads you started the first time around. I don't know
what you're trying to accomplish by doing this but it is unnecessary and
annoying.

Windows Messenger is NOT integral to Windows XP. It is an add-in that can
easily be uninstalled.

I don't know about the current version of MSN Messenger, but version 5 of
MSN Messenger WAS integral to the MSN service IF you had MSN as your dial-up
ISP.

Hi Peter
Yah I know several guys have been helpful, really I have uninstalled it. I
am not a real newbie, but it still pops up.

What can be the matter. When I go to uninstall it, it seems to be still
their, it pops up every time I open outlook express.

See right now it is in my system tray!! See I have even now clicked on and
it pops up the application that sais "click here to sign in" Windows
Messenger!

~seriously I have uninstalled it. So how is it reappearing like a ghost from
beyond???

Hi Og,
I seem to be clear on that, no misunderstanding, it must be some small thing
I'm doing wrong! I can't understand why its still on my system.

but should this be something a general ordinary user should have to do? Why
does the normal uninstall proceedure not work? Is it some kidn of bug, it is
showing that it is uninstalled, but yet it is not, thats what I don't
understand.
 
Maybe you missed it. I indicated MS Messenger was immediatley uninstalled
when using SP1. Never indicated installed in SP2 when updated to that in
control panel, add/remove programs.
