i can't see cd-dvd icons

after a system recover xp can't see cd/dvd drives; they appear in bios
search at post phase but windows can't see them; what has happened?

i've fixed problem by update driver of IDE channels in Control IDE
ATA/ATAPI;
it goes well only on one ide channel; on the other there's an error; what's
happening?
