I Cant Recover XP Without my password:(

HELP HELP HELP

yesterday i downloaded the windows xp(professional)
service pack thing and when it was done installing it
said there were some missing or unrecognisable windows
files. now when i turn my computer on it shuts itself off
on its own when it gets to the loading windows xp
part.... i put in the windows xp disk and went to recover
and then it told me to put the administrators password
in... my mom doesnt know it anymore *sigh* so i cant
recover without the password and we dont wanna lose the
info on our hard drive... is there somehow to fix this
problem?
 
hey, here's an advice from me to you.. perform a system
recovery and nothing else.anythingelse buddy?

First off all did she actually create a password? The password may be blank.
Second of all if you're trying to recover Windows files you don't want to use
the recovery console, which is what I think you're using. Instead you want
reinstall XP on top of itself. Boot the computer from the cd. Select the
option to install Windows XP. From there it will give you a choice of creating
a new installation or to repair the existing installation. Choose the option
to repair. You will need your 25 digit alpha-numerical product key from the
back of your Windows XP cd folder in order to complete the process. The repair
option will fix any Windows files that are missing or corrupted but it will
leave everything else alone. All your settings and any other programs or dats
that you've added will remain intact.
