Using Outlook as a client has worked without problems for almost a year until
3 days ago. Though I haven't changed anything--I can send fine, but always
get an error message telling me the connection has timed out, and suggesting
its a server/ISP problem. Everything checks out on that end--incoming &
outcoming addresses are correct & ports seem to be clear--I was able to
telnet into my server and can see there are messages there, but Outlook does
not seem to be picking them up.

Try these one of these options:

1. Remove the Account and put it in fresh

2. Do you have a Firewall? If so run an update on it. See
what happens when you disable it for a moment. (My
Norton occasionally stops me downloading SPAM - not that
I want it! - but it acts like a log jam to all emails
behind it)

Change your outgoing smtp server to the same as

Thank you. It appears that step one triggered something and I got a few
messages through. The idea then came to me to go on line and access messages
via webmail and found a suspect piece of spam that may have been creating the
logjam. After that, all the messages came through.

In any case, it works now and my wife is very grateful. Thanks for the help.
