I have three computers using Windows XP Pro connecting through a wired
Linksys router. Computer A and computer B can browse each other and
all three can connect to the internet. All three are on the same
workgroup and I've run the Network Wizard every
which way there is. Computer C will not connect to any of the drives
of the other computers or on itself either. I can ping the localhost
fine but I've tried to ping the computer's IP address and it times
out.

The error message I get when I click on Entire Network / Microsoft
Windows Network / Mshome (my workgroup name) says "Mshome is not
accessible. You might not have permission to use this network
resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you
have access permissions."

Here's the problem I would like to fix:

One thing I've noticed is that under My Network Places / Entire
Network there are two services missing: Microsoft Terminal Services
and Web Client Network on the computer that cannot ping itself. These
two ARE included on the two computers that will browse the network
properly.

I checked and the services are running - computer browser and terminal
services.

How do I get these back?

Thanks greatly,

Mark

The 'missing' items only show up if you select
'show hidden folders and files' in windows explorer.

This is un-related to your inability to ping yourself.
This is most likely a firewall problem.

Disable or un-install any firewalls on this machine untill
you have resolved the issue.

This can also be caused by the incorrect and
incomplete removal of a firewall.

If you un-install a firewall from add / remove programs,
it can often leave debris behind like rogue services.

For example, if you un-install zonealarm like this,
the TrueVector service may continue to run.

The fix for this is to re-install the firewall and then un-install
it correctly. Consult the manufacturer's website for details.

For example, with ZoneAlarm, you need to go to the
ZA control panel, and un-check 'run at startup'.
Then re-boot, so ZA is no longer running, then un-install it.
