i cant open word files... it says " " is not available

i cant open word files... it says " " is not available
i purchased word less than a year ago. its word 2003.
it wont let me open any files. at the bottom left (when i try to open a
file) it says
running virus check... then it gives me a prompt that says " the file name"
is not available...
someone help me please
