Hi,

I created a new account in windows XP without administrator privileges.

When I opened the ms access 2003 I was surprised, it opens ready only.

What can I do to open ms access for the users that doesn't have
administrator permissions?

Thanks a lot,

JP

Take a look at the MDB or MDE file and look at the file properties. Is
it read only? If so you need to change it.

Next look at the directory in which the file is located. You MUST have
read, write, delete and create privileges in that directory. Your new
account must have all those rights.

The mde file is not read only and the folder is dull permissions.
If I open the file as administrator account I don't have problem, the ms
access file is not read only. If I open the account not as administrator the
ms access file is opened as read only.

Do you have any suggestion? Why if the account is not administrator the ms
access file open as read only? I opened the Northwind.mdb and is the same,
it open as read only; if I change the account for user administrator, it
open without problems.

Thanks,

Permissions are handled by the operating system, Windows XP.

If your application is read-only, you need to change the
permissions in Windows XP.

If you are confused by the permissions in Windows XP, you
have come to the wrong place, because we really only know
about Access.

What we can tell you about Access is that those permissions
are handled by the operating system, Windows XP.

I do not know what the difference is between your Users
Accounts and your Administrator Account.

You may find it easier to test if you use a text file
and Word or Notepad instead of using a database.

When you have a text file that is not read only, your
database will not be read only.

Has user level security been applied to the database? Does the database
link to any other data sources? Is it a split database?

Split and not split database is the same.
When I open word document or excel file, I don't have problem, I mean, I
open and I can edit.
Access files I open read only.

When we create accont in windows xp, we can create as administrator and not
administrator.
As administrator I don't have problem, as not administrator I have this
problem, access file is opened read only.

I post this question here because word document, excel file and another
files I don't have this problem.
I think here I could receive help.

Can you save your edits in Word? Can you make a new file in Word and
can you delete that new file in Word?

I can edit, save, delete files, I can do every thing in word or excel.
I change computer I created new account as not administrator it happens the
same.
I don't know if is a ms access problem or windows xp problem.
If I logon an account as administrator and I open the same access file, I
don't have problem.

Sugesttions?

Sorry I am out of suggestions. I seem to recall someone else having a
like problem and someone helped them out, but I fear my memory is fuzzy.
