Each time I insert my microsoft office cd to insert office or ppt, the installation appears to begin, a window pops up asking for the cd key. I start to enter the string of letters & numbers, then all of a sudden the window disappears. Each time I try to install the same thing happens. How can I install?

Hi Lara,

I'm sorry you are having a difficult time getting PowerPoint installed on
your computer. Let's run some questions by and see if we can track down
where the installation is going wrong.

What version of PowerPoint are you installing on what version of Windows?
And does your system meet the minimum requirements for the version of
PowerPoint you are installing (RAM, Speed, HDD space, etc.)?

Is the PowerPoint installation CD for 'upgrading your version of PowerPoint'
or is it a 'full install of PowerPoint'? If you do not have a qualifying
product for the upgrade version, the installation program should be giving
you an error explaining this, but ...

Is there any flaws in the surface of the CD? This should not case an open
dialog box to close, but could be causing an error in the processing. (long
shot)

Do you have any unneeded processes/programs running in the background that
may be pulling the system's focus away from installation tasks? Whenever
installing any software, it is a good idea to have as little running on the
system as is reasonable.

Are you watching the field boxes when entering the numbers? The field boxes
for the CD key usually advance from one to the next automatically. However,
some users hit the tab key or enter between each group of number/letters and
end up aborting the installation unintentionally.

What language keyboard are you using? Do any other input fields/boxes/areas
show unexpected behavior?

This should get us started with tracking down the source of your
frustration.

Thanks for getting me started with this. I went through each of your questions (see below). The only thing I can identify as possibly causing the problem is the scratch on the surface of the cd. Is there somewhere on the microsoft website where I can enter the cd key & attempt to download the program (see if it works without the cd?).

I am trying to install powerpoint from a Microsoft Office Professional Enterprise Edition 2003 CD. I have Windows XP and my computer meets minimum requirements.

i just noticed that there is a long scratch on the surface of the cd.

no. I closed everything (even programs like date manager that tend to run in the background).

it closes before I even get a chance to get to the next group of numbers/letters. it closes after a few seconds regardless of whether I enter anything or not.

english language keyboard. no other unexpected behaviour.

No, there's no place to download the software. You can try to return it to
the store. If they won't accept it, you'll need to call Microsoft and
request "replacement media". See:
