I got the following error message as I tried to insert, as an object
with no link, a document file (not a Word file) into a Word document.

"This object was created in Package. This application is not available
to open this object. Make sure the application is properly installed
and that it has not been deleted, moved, or rename."

What's wrong?

Hi,

Basically this means that the application used to create the file isn't on
your system and neither does Word have a filter that would give the
information needed to tell Word how to process the file.

Cheers

You need to launch packager.exe

I had this problem when I got a new computer. The program that you want to use to package on object, such as a zip file into a word document is Packager.exe. This is located at C:\windows\system32\packager.exe

However the issue is that Word may not sometimes reference that program when trying to package object. As such, you might be able to embed other word documents, powerpoints, excel files, etc, but not embed zip files or images. The solution is just to launch packager (by double clicking it) and embedding a document manually.

After I did it manually one time on my new computer, then word knew to reference packager for zip files in the future, and the embedding worked.

This morning, I was inserting videos into my Word document (From the Word doc Insert Tab -Object -Object -Create From File -Browse -Insert -Ok) without issue. Suddenly, I got the same error message. I saved and closed all programs, restarted my PC, and it's back after restarting.
