I cant get past the "not so welcome " screen

when I turn on my HP xt155 everything seems to start normally untill it reaches the blue screen with the windows xp logo. then nothing happens...the mouse still moves the cursor around the screen so it does'nt seem to be frozen...I've tried restoring to the last good config and starting in safe mode but even safe mode with command prompt gives nothing but a small blue screen.....help!....(my laptop came loaded with windows xp home)
 
No solution - but I have exactly the same problem! Weird
thing is: Networking works, I was able to access the
Shared folder through another PC on my network, even with
the blue logo screen displayed. Help!
