I can't copy into clipboard unless Word is already open

If Word (Office XP) is already open, even if minimised, I can copy and paste
into it as normal....but if I copy to the clipboard before launching Word,
the clipboard seems to be empty (for instance I get a 'v' inserted into the
document if I use the 'CTRL V' shorcut...)

....This isn't normal, is it?

(Many apologies folks if I'm asking in the wrong group here, but it sounds
to me more like a windows problem than an office problem.)

Many thanks,

Chris

They are two different clipboards.

If you want to copy and paste in MS Word, you have to open Word first
in order to use the Word clipboard.

[[The Office Clipboard and the system Clipboard

The Office Clipboard is related to the system Clipboard in the following
ways:

When you copy multiple items to the Office Clipboard, the last item you copy
is always copied to the system Clipboard.
When you clear the Office Clipboard, the system Clipboard is also cleared.
When you use the Paste command, the Paste button, or the shortcut keys
(CTRL+V), you paste the contents of the system Clipboard, not the Office
Clipboard. ]]

I had the same frustration, then I found out the reason. You must be using
Word as part of the Works Suite. When the Works Suite Add-in is installed,
opening Word clears the system Clipboard. The solutions are either to
remember to open Word before you cut or copy something, or to uninstall the
Works Suite Add-in. The latter was recommended to me by the good folks in
the Word newsgroups. My solution, ultimately, was to buy Word 2003 as a
standalone and uninstall the whole Works Sutie. Now I can copy text from the
Internet before opening Word and I don't lose it.

Hi Chris,

I don't have a solution for you but, I can tell you that it works on my
machine whether Word is opened before or after the copy is preformed. Just
to make sure, I copied part of one of the other posts to your query and then
opened Word and pasted using Ctrl+V. Obviously, your situation is not
normal.

LOL, JAX

lmao!

That's rich!
