Hello,

Ive set up a home network myself with 2 PCs, one
connected to broadband running Win XP Pro, and another
sharing the broadband connection running XP Home. The
network seems to work fine (can share files and printers)
and the internet connection is ok too...

but I cannot get access to certain sites. It tries to
load the pages and then times-out. I can't access
microsoft.com, nor hotmail, and also I cannot log in to
messenger (though I used to be able to). There are a few
other sites that I just cannot access.

Has this happened to anyone else, or am I missing
something really obvious? It just seems very strange.

Thanks in advance,
J

i suppose you turned internet connection sharing on.
did you try to set your ip and dns to automatic on the other computer?
otherwise enter the ip adres of your sharing computer in the default gateway, dns, and wins (in the advanced settings) of the other one.

Are you using Internet Connection Sharing to share a DSL connection
that uses PPPoE (PPP Over Ethernet)? If so, here are some possible
fixes. Any one of them should solve the problem:

1. Install Windows XP Service Pack 1 on the ICS host computer.

2. Find the right MTU setting on the client computer, as shown here:

http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article04-107

and then make the setting manually on the client computer, or use
DrTCP to make it:

http://www.dslreports.com/front/drtcp.html

3. Download the free RASPPPoE program and install it on the host
computer. Use it instead of XP's PPPoE program. Details at these
sites:
