i cannot delete my internet connection gateway under
windows xp home editionSP1 with all security updates. i
have tried running network setup wizard and have selected
a network format taht does not use a gateway. the
gateway then goes away and returns activated 5 minues
later. if i de-activate the gateway, i cannot access the
internet. i have run a virus scan using symantec's
internet security 2004 with all updates as of february
20, 2004 @ 11:40 AM. my computer was custumly
manufactured by a local store. i have an amd 2100+
seagate 40GB ultra ata baracuda harddrive, msi kt3-ultra2
motherboard, 512MB kingston pc2700 RAM, realtek
rtl8139/810x family fast ethernet nic card. i have a
linksys befsr41 ver. 3 cable/dsl 4 port switch/router.
everything has been working fine before this, and i just
want to get rid of my internet connection gateway. i
would really appreciate any posts made or emails in
response to my post, thank you.

The Internet Gateway is your Linksys router. When you de-activate the
gateway, you're telling the Linksys router to disconnect itself from
the Internet, which why you can't access the Internet after doing it.

If you don't want to see the Internet Gateway icon on your computer,
consult the router documentation to find out how to configure your
router not to create the icon. On some routers, that's done by
disabling "Universal Plug and Play (UPnP)".
