I cannot cut and paste text from word to another applicarion

I have been given a word document that I need to cut and paste some of the
text from and into another application.

The text in question appears on the page in word but has black dots directly
below it, I can cut and paste it within word but not to anywhere else.

Is there a setting i need to check/uncheck to allow me to copy the text?
 
The text is formatted as Hidden. Select the text and press Ctrl+Spacebar to
remove the Hidden font formatting.
