I can receive messages but no send them.

I have just brought a new lap top and am setting up my email it lets me
receive messages but not send them it comes up with the following message

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject
'Re: RE:GS=RN0023 My account: Changing my personal information
(KMM30951992V8058L0KM)', Account: 'POP3.btinternet.com (2)', Server:
'SMTP.btinternet.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '530 authentication
required - Your email could not be sent. To fix this you must make a simple
change to your email (known as SMTP authentication). For advice visit
www.btyahoo.com/smtp', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 530, Error
Number: 0x800CCC78

any help please?

Tools | Accounts | Select the account
Click Properties | Servers.
Check the box for "My server requires authentication".
 
Make sure you have send authentication enabled.
Go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties, Servers.
The box for "My server requires authentication must be checked.
