I can receive but cannot send

My system is outlook 2003 with all the latest updates, (SP2 et al) I get a
similar problem to the others, but only at home connecting to a wireless
cable connection. I use a laptop at the office and have no problems receiving
and sending mail, via our office network. When I connect at home via our
wireless cable connection, I can receive but cannot send. I get a "protocol
error" from my Macafee antivirus programme, on following that link, it says
that my "server has rejected my mail". It seems obvious to me that my home
cable wireless network is not set up corretly, but it was working a couple
of weeks ago, I could both send and receive mail, now I can't, that is what
has me stumped. I have not changed anything I know off, my IP addresses for
my SP are all correct for both my office network connection, and my wireless
connection.

Any advice out there would be appreciated, but please keep it simple as I am
technically challenged.

First, disable scanning mail in McAfee. You don't need it, especially on
outgoing mail. Second, make sure your properly authenticating to your
outgoing server. Third, make sure you don't have a firewall blocking the
SMTP port. Fourth, make sure your ISP didn't change the SMTP port they
listen on.

Thanks Brian, I appreciate your help, and will attempt to follow your
instructions. Turning off the virus scanning was easy, the rest of your
instuctions are a bit over my head, if you could give me a few more detailed
pointers, I would be most grateful.
Thanks again for the reply

Authentication for outbound mail is on the Outgoing Server tab of your
account properties pages. You should know whether or not you're using a
firewall and which one it is, so you should be able to determine whether or
not it's blocking port 25. You can call your ISP to ask if port 25 is the
correct port.

Thanks Brian, I will give that a try this weekend when I hook up to the
wireless service. I will check out all your info and practice beforehand. If
I have any further questions I will come back to you. Many thanks again for
your help
Andy
