I have a hp base unit and is not shipped with a copy of xp homed eition.

I have the recovery disc set but i am unable to use it as a boot cd.
I recently had a virus and could not start my pc at all. I lost stuff off my
pc as the recovery cds only allow you to use the recovey options "soft
recovery" and "full format recovery" All I needed to do i think was to boot
up from a cd (I have no Floppy Drive) I have looked on the microsoft site and
it only does a boot up disc for floppies! Any ideas?
Cheers.

Note, Bart's PE won't boot you into windows. It boots into Bart's
environment but you can run AV tools, copy files and do other recovery
work from there.

Thanks for that will try it!

Additionally, it may ask for your XP Install disc. An OEM recovery CD will probably not suffice.

It is possible to boot XP with a boot disc (floppy or CD) containing the
following files
NTDETECT.COM
ntldr
boot.ini
IO.SYS
MSDOS.SYS
cmd.exe
