I am so fed up with this program. Is it me or the program?

Is it possible that the pre-installed MS Word package that came with my
XP is just a downright inferior (no frills) version of MS Word? I just
can't ever get the features to work right. I've been trying to merge
fields from my Microsoft Outlook Contacts list into labels. Outlook
tells me I don't have the right version installed. My version seems to
be 97/2000/2002/2003 for windows. Since the Outlook program claims to
be compatible with 2002 I should be alright. I also don't have a mail
merge wizard that the microsoft "help" pages (online) seem to think I
should have. I only have a "Merge" feature and no matter what I try,
it's not working. Thanks,

Word comes in a discrete version

Word 97
Word 2000
Word 2002 (XP)
or
Word 2003

so, if you really do have something that tells you it's a mixture of all
four, then something is really screwy.

What do you see if you select About Microsoft Word from the Help menu?

In Word XP and later, you must select Letters and Mailings from the Tools
menu to access Mailmerge, or you can turn on the Mailmerge toolbar by
selecting Toolbars from the View menu and then check the Mailmerge item.

I would suggest that before you go any further, you take a look at the
following:

The "Mailmerge from Outlook" item on fellow MVP Graham Mayor's website at:

http://www.gmayor.com/mailmerge_from_outlook.htm

and

on the same site "Mailmerge Labels with Word XP" at

I suspect what you're looking at is the file format. To get the Word
version, use Help | About Microsoft Word. If you had Office XP, then you
have Outlook 2002 and Word 2002, but if the file type is actually showing
2003, then it's more likely you have Word 2003 (and probably Outlook 2003 as
well). See http://www.gmayor.com/mailmerge_from_outlook.htm
