I want hyphenated words to appear on a single line. Word sometimes breaks
the line at the hyphens. I just want a new line, not a new paragraph, to
contain the hyphenated word. E.g. one-to-one is a technical term and needs
to read together.
How can I achieve this?

Use a non-breaking hyphen CTRL+_

From Word Help on "non-breaking hyphen":

<quote>
Insert a nonbreaking hyphen

1. Click where you want to insert the nonbreaking hyphen.

2. Press CTRL+SHIFT+HYPHEN.

</quote>

This will not work if you've changed the key assignment. You can also get
the character from Insert > Symbol > Special Characters.

HTH.
