I have Intel's P4 hyperthreading enabled in an Intel 845
m/b's BIOS. WinXP Pro's device manager shows Computer |
Standard PC. How do I get WinXP to recognize the
hyperthreaded cpu as a dual processor?
Right clicking 'Standard PC' doesn't allow uninstall so
as to allow hardware checking to search again: cannot
change 'Standard PC' driver: search for new hardware
doesn't recognize the hyperthreading.
I also have ACPI activated in BIOS.
Thanks for any suggestions

What does device manager show under the "processors"
category, instead of "computer"?

You should see two processor entries, representing the
two logical processors.

Basically, if that's all you're basing it on, you're
looking in the wrong spot - what else makes you think
hyperthreading is disabled? Assuming it was enabled when
you installed XP, it should be on with no change from you.

Device Manager has no Processor entry, just
Computer|StanardPC. Looked in System Info (no processor
info) and CP|System (shows Pentium 4 with correct speed).
I had reinstalled WinXP. On the old install Devise
Manager | Computer showed something about dual processors
so I thought it was activated by WinXP in this install.
Also Task Manager doesn't show 2 cpu's - it did on the
previous install.
