I have P4 3000 MHZ, 512 MB Ram 400DDR, 800 Mhz FSB working with XP home

when I run heavy numerical software, the task manager shows only 50% processor time for this process. on my former win2000 machine with a P4 2400 MHZ, it showed me 99% for this task? by the way, the calculations should be 12-25% fster with the new processor, but they aren't, not any percent. what can be wrong?

bring up task manager , processes tab , right click on the prog and set the
priority and try setting it to high or real time and see if that helps . i'm
assuming you know that doing that will give it priority over other programs
.. and you'll be assuming that i have a clue about what i'm talking about .
and while i'm at it isnt hyperthreading for dual processor puters ?

hey , i'm sure other more knoledgeable people will chime in , but i was
bored so i thought i'd throw in my 2 cents worth .

have a nice day ;-)

Does your application support hyperthreading?

Woody:
Multi-threading is for multiple processors.
Hyper-threading is a way to emulate multiple processors on a single
processor.

In either case, if the software application one is using is not written to
multi-thread, the issue is moot.

This is from Intel:

Hyper-Threading Technology is a form of simultaneous multi-threading
technology (SMT) where multiple threads of software applications can be run
simultaneously on one processor.
