Does anyone know how - when attaching a file to a message -
you get the name to come up as a hyperlink within the
message text, as well as as a separate icon? People
sometimes send me these and I think they're useful, but I
haven't a clue how they do it!

You can do this when you use the RTF message format. Note that only a very
few mailclients support RTF-format and the attachments will come in broken
when they don't.
Anyway to change it; Tools-> Options-> tab Mail Format

Many thanks for this. It doesn't seem like something it'll
be worth using but it's a relief to be able to stop
racking my brains about how it's done!

All best

You're welcome! :-)
