Hyperlink screen tips do not display in PPT veiwer

I've packaged a presentation for CD using PPT 2K3. When the veiwer displays the presentation the hyperlinks' screen tips on my slides (which go to a slide within the same presentation) do not display on mouseover. I've checked that I have everything set correctly and can't find anything wrong. When I play the slideshow from PowerPoint the screen tips work fine. Is there anything I can do to get the screen tips to work in the veiwer?
 
It's by design, apparently, and can't be changed. Screen tips weren't
supported in the old Viewer either.
