About 25% of the time when my Windows XP Home PC wakes up from hibernation,
the CPU is pegged at 100% and the machine seems to be locked up.
The mouse still moves. I can open Command Prompt Windows without any
problem.. However, I can't open the task manager or any other windows
applications. I can click on shutdown in the Start Menu, and I get the
window that asks me what I want to do. If I click on shutdown, the window
disappears, but the PC does not shut down.
Usually, if I leave the PC alone, after 5-10 minutes it will start working.
Sometimes it never does. A couple of times I was able to get the task
manager to open while the CPU was still pegged, and the task svchost.exe was
using up all of the CPU.
Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this, or how to diagnose the
problem?
Note: I always exit from all applications before I have my computer go into
hibernation.
Thanks,
