Hi,
In the past few days, I've been getting huge (1 to 4
gigabytes in size) mcv*.tmp files deposited in my temp
directory (where * is any string of numbers).

Does anyone know what these might be? My wild guess from
the file name they are either Microsoft or McAfee
files...though McAfee support denied any responsibility
for the files. Deleting them causes no problems. It's
just annoying to have manually delete these. And if I
forget, they quickly sap all of my drive space since they
are so large.

Thanks,
-kati

Probably video files. Do you use a tv tuner? Sometimes
these automaticaly record when you are watching. I dont
know what else could be a big. Joel

Well, apparently I'm not alone in this problem, evidenced
by the many direct emails I recieved. It would seem one
person has had better luck with McAfee support than I. On
alt.comp.antivirus, there is a similar report (thanks
Helen for your excellent googling!)

If anyone is having these problems and they are running
Outlook 2000 (apparently the problem is connected with
Outlook 2000 & McAfee Viruscan), the short-term fix is to
turn off scriptstopper and wormstopper.
(Options/advanced).

I tried this and seem to have stopped accumulating the
huge McV*.temp files. ...at least for the time being,
phew!

According to the thread referenced below, McAfee claims a
better fix is in the works.
