Hi all,

I am trying to fix a notebook on which IE6 is requiring "http://" in the
address bar.

We have recently installed and run Ad-Aware (adware and spyware removal) and
installed the Logitech Webcam. I do not know if the address bar problem
preceeded these installations or not.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. It is my boss's notebook! :)

Thanks in advance.

I don't have an answer for you, but I am researching the
same problem on my father's PC. I believe that he has
also installed Ad-Aware, though I am not sure that the
problem appeared right after the install. I do know that
the problem appeared after his homepage was hijacked by
another web site. He went back into the Internet Options
and reset the homepage.

Now he can access the homepage without typing "http://"
but all other websites still require it.

This may create more questions than it answers, but
perhaps we can find some common traits that will allow us
to track the culprit.

IE will not connect to a web page without manually typing
http://

Using Regedit, have a look at this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersi
on\URL

The correct settings should be as follows:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVers
ion\URL\DefaultPrefix]
Default ="http://"

Sub-key:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVers
ion\URL\Prefixes]

"ftp"="ftp://"
"gopher"="gopher://"
"home"="http://"
"mosaic"="http://"
"www"="http://"
