hello, i have recently installed office xp on a windows xp machine and i'm
trying to get outlook to handle all 3 of my email accounts as i did with
outlook express previously. one acct is POP3 and the other 2 are hotmail. i
got the first one set up with no problems, but every time i attempt the
second it says the server is unavailable. is there a setting in outlook that
needs to be changed? thanks
oh, also is it possible to get the inbox status of outlook (instead of
outlook express) displayed on the welcome screen of windows xp? since i'm
trying to switch over it tells me i have a ton of new messages because i
haven't opened them in outlook express. thanks

Hotmail cannot be used in OE or Outlook now unless you have a paid-for
premium account.

that would explain it if i wasn't able to set up any hotmail accounts in
outlook or outlook express. i have 2 hotmail accounts, neither of which are
premium, and both are working in outlook express, but only one is working in
outlook. are you quite sure there is a restriction now?

See http://www.slipstick.com/addins/services/online.htm for the specifics on
hotmail's http support.

Outlook 2002 only ever supported one hotmail account for most users. A few
people had it working for two or more, but we never figured out why it
worked forsome and not for everyone.

I had it working for several accounts. At one time I had 5 configured but I
had removed them from the Send/Receive groups so they only connected and
synched when I clicked on them. Perhaps that was the trick?

I disabled the autoconnect and Send/Receive because they locked up my
Outlook at startup and made it really slow after that.

First, Outlook 2002 was never designed to handle more than one HTTP account
at a time. Second, Hotmail no longer supports HTTP (WebDAV) access to the
free accounts.

Shag,

Goto www.freepops.org and download there utility. They'll give you all the
details there but I'll give you a brief overview.

It runs on your local PC. You configure Outlook to look to port 2000 for
this particular account and the "incoming mail server" is "localhost". When
Outlook checks your email, this utility is listening on port 2000. The
utility will then log into your hotmail account and pass them through to
Outlook.

i've been using it for about a month and LOVE it!

PLUS it's free under the GNU license.
