I have a default program set for HTML documents (IE),
however, all HTML files use the default unknown file
icon. If I change the default program to any other
program, such as Notepad, Visual Studio, etc., the HTML
file icons still use the unknown file icon.

Also, if I go to the Control Panel -> Appearance and
Themes -> Folder Options and click the "File Types" tab,
the HTML extension is listed. In that listing, the
unknown file icon is shown next to HTML. However, if I
click the Advanced tab at the bottom, the HTML document
icon appears in the window "Edit File Type".

Any help?

Hi Patrick,

Locate an .html file that is not showing the proper icon, right click and
select Open/Choose Program. Browse to the C:\Program Files\Internet
Explorer folder and select the file iexplore.exe and click Open and then on
the Open With screen, click OK.

I'm having the same problem. It's just "stuck" on the
unknown file icon.

Have even checked Registry for "htmlfile" against another
XP machine and it seems fine.

What's going on?

Please post the contents of the Htmlfile key, will tell you.
