hp2300c software brings up error message!

Can't load my hp 2300c scanner software. Keep getting the
error message:
The windows installer service could not be accessed. This
can occur if you are running windows in safe mode, or if
the installer is not correctly installed. Contactact your
support personnel for assistance.

Not in safe mode and installer works for other software.
Getting zip for help from microsoft because xp is
considered part of OEM because it camp preloaded on my
Sony laptop and Sony is a big zero for help generic
replies that are no where close to the subject I ask
about. Can anybody help me?

Try HP's website and/or call their tech support. This doesn't have
anything to do with XP or Sony.
