During the HP installation an error appeared saying the
RCP server not available (or not running). I have done
some research and found that the printer spooler service
does not show up in the admin tools/services sub-menu.
Based on what I have tried to find on posted messages the
printer spooler seems to be the problem. I have been
trying for a week myself and cannot fix the problem.

If the Printer Spooler Service has been deleted, the only thing that will
bring it back is a Repair Installation.

have you just upgraded to sp2 by any chance?
I did and I lost my print spooler, I chose to do a clean install and now all
is working fine with sp2

I tried following the instructions for a repair install,
which was hitting f10 or r for repair after inserting my
upgrade disk but it did not go to the repair install.
Not sure what to do.

I have an upgrade CD, does that make a differnce because
I still seem to have a problem. Any suggestions would be
great!!

It won't make any difference.

Just ignore the F2 for the Recovery Console, go through the F8 for the EULA.
XP will search for and find itself on the drive.... and one of the options
it will offer is a Repair Installation.
