I have a Toshiba 1405-S151 notebook running on Windows XP
SE. The printer software will not install. Printer
spooler is missing. Any suggestions would be helpful.

I have a Toshiba 1405-S151 notebook running on Windows XP
SE.

There's no such thing - there's XP Pro, and XP Home - no SE.
The printer software will not install. Printer
spooler is missing.

What does that mean exactly? If you go to services, is the print spooler
service started? (control panel, administrative tools, services). Any event
log errors?

If this printer is more than a few years old, the drivers that came with it
are probably incompatible with XP, and should not be used.

Try uninstalling the printer from the device manager. Then ask XP to detect
new hardware, laso form the device manager. If you are lucky, XP will see
the printer and load some generic drivers that will make it work.

Plan B: Check with the HP support website for drivers, advice, etc.

If the Spooler Service has been deleted, the ONLY way to get it back is to
do a Repair Installation.

If it is simply not running, start it by typing "Net Start Spooler" at the
Command Prompt.
