My HP Pavilion (SP2) has been crashing every couple of days. The
manifestation is a reboot. Tech support told me to turn that off so that I
could see the error message. The main error is:

Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

No idea what that means but my tech support indicated they wanted me to roll
the machine back to factory setup (!) to rule out software since installed.
Is there another, better way? Does this error trigger a bell?

Actually I haven't installed anything. Periodically I plug a memory stick
into one of the USB devices. But that's not really installing I guess and in
fact there wasn't one in there when it crashed. Beyond that, though, no new
H/W at all.

Just thought I'd follow up on this out of general interest. Called HP support
and got a really good guy. I could barely read him the error message when he
identified it. Turns out I had way too many things running in Startup. Only
thing I really is Norton. So we booted in Safe Mode, went into MSConfig and
de-checked a lot of it. It's still all available to me, just not all in
Startup. We'll see what happens.
