I got a windows program that I need to backup or move or install on another computer.
The company who made the software is out of business and we lost the CD.
Its a simple program, but it gives errors when copied to another computer.
The program is installed on a few computers, but I need to format these systems
and reinstall the OS and all the programs.

Any suggestions on how to grab all the dll/registry, etc... to move the program?

Go to EBAY and look for it

Its not a well known program and why should I have to pay twice for something I already own

I need a software solution. This program is too obscure to buy a copy of it.

Get a "move" or "transport" utility. Some uninstallers have the ability
to transport programs to other pcs. CyberMedia Uninstaller for example
used to be able to do this.

because that's the penalty for being stupid enough to
lose the disk!

Greetings --

You lost the CD. You need to purchase it again. If you forgot
where you parked your car, would you expect Ford to give you a
replacement?

Hi

Use regmon and filemon to monitor what files and registry entries the failing app is
trying to access and then copy them from the original computer.

You can download regmon and filemon from http://www.sysinternals.com
