I am trying to type documents in SANSKRIT, but I am forced to type using
MANGAL- Devanagari script. I am unable to de-link DEVANAGRI_MANGAL and type
in SD!-Surekh font.

You might want to try asking this in the word.international.features

Priya "dsghyd" -
If you are using recent versions of MS Word (e.g. 2007, 2003 ityaadi) then
consider using the Arial Unicode MS font for your Devanaagarii typing. It is
an excellent font; we use it for all of our Hindi and Sanskrit typing.
One possible issue for you: - viz. the IME (Input Method Editor). You will
need to test yours and make sure that it works for your font. I do not know
if SDI-TTsurekh is Unicode-compliant or not.
