Trying to use outlook and cannot send/receive email. error msg 0x8004010F. I
work from home, have no employess, no need to share address book. Just
trying to use it w/ a new PDA I have. The exchange server appears to be a
fee based service - I don't know. I just want to use Outlook to schedule my
appts, keep contacts and use email.

Have you removed the Exchange service from your mail profile and added a POP
account?

I assume when you say mail profile you mean when I set up my mail
accounts? It is set up as a POP account, everything is the same as
with Outlook Express, which I have used for years. I can find
nothing in the setup areas about the Exchange service. Is there
someplace I should be looking? I feel pretty computer challenged
here w/ this problem, seems like it shouldn't be this difficult.

You haven't stated your Outlook version so it's difficult to advice you
exactly where to look.

I'm running XP Pro w/ Microsoft Small Business Edition 2003, so it's Outlook
2003, also it's service pack 1 if that means anything.

OK, then, what do you see when you click Control Panel>User
Accounts>Mail>Show Profiles, select your profile, click Properties, then
E-mail Accounts>Next? Do you see just your POP account?

I go to Control Panel>User Accounts and I get two accts -
administrator and guest - guest is not active, there is no way to
get a 'show profiles or properties',

Under Control Panel>User Accounts you should see "Mail" and "User Accounts"
unless you're using the Classic Control Panel View. If you are, Control
Panel>Mail is what you want.

send message using Outlook and got the error0x8004010F, operation failed,
object not found. What else is there to look at? Aain, thank you for your

OK, yes. The account is set up as POP/SMTP (Default). Server info:
Incoming mail server (POP3): mail.comcast.net / Outgoing mail server
(SMTP): smtp.comcast.net. I go to 'more settings'> Internet E-mail
Settings: Outgoing server(SMTP) is set at requiring authentication
and use same settings as incoming server.

What bothers me in all this is that in your original post you mentioned
Exchange and from a brief perusal of other postings with this error, it
seems to be associated with downloading the offline address book from
Exchange, yet you say you have no Exchange account.

OK, here's what I'd do if I were in your shoes.

1) Make sure there is no antivirus program scanning incoming or outgoing
mail. Uninstall and reinstall without that option.
2) Detect and Repair in Help
3) new profile in Control Panel>Mail>Show Profile>Add (make a copy of your
PST to be safe)
4) New PST with File>New>Outlook Data File, then make it the new delivery
location, stop/restart Outlook and move data from old PST to new.

Other than that, I've no more ideas. Sorry.
