How to use Files and Settings Transfer Wizard with a Home LAN???

I finally saved enough to get a new desktop pc and I want to transfer my
stuff from my laptop. Both run XP SP2. I have a LAN with the two computers
tied by cable directly to the router. The LAN tests perfectly and I can
transfer files, etc back and forth with no problems. But, the Files and
Settings Transfer Wizard hangs at the step on my old laptop when it tries to
detect the new pc. I know the network works because I can ping both
machines. I am frustrated!!! A new, powerful machine and nothing I try to
get my files and settings over works.

Can someone help me??
