How to use an adp as a data source for mail merge.

I've been beating my brains out all day trying to use an adp as a word
mail merge source. Does anybody know of a guide or a method of doing
this?

In frustration I tried transfer spreadsheet as an intermediate step
but I can't even get this to work. The resultant xls doesn't display
any content in Excel although opening it in notepad shows that the
data is there amongst the indecipherable stuff.
 
You can connect your Word mail merge directly to the SQL Server database.

Hmm.. I'll try that tomorrow using the same dsn that I've already got
set-up onto the sql database.
