anyone know? i had win2K, then upgraded to xp, but had
instability with both OS's on the same partition. now
that i have winxp, the osuninst.exe command won't work,
nor can i boot from win2k disk to proceed with win2k
install. reformatting the partition using the xp boot
disks won't work either, because it just won't read the
win20 disk. looks like microsoft really wants me to use
xp, but i can't because of hardware issues. i need to
get back to win2k, and don't care about wiping all data.
please help.

You didn't say, but I assume you can't boot into Win 2000. If I assumed
wrong and you can, follow the instruction in the link listed below titled "I
have two installations XP on the same partition......" It will work for 2000
and XP on the same partition.
Why can't you boot from your Win 2000 CD? Do you have the bios set to boot
from CD before hard drive?
If you can boot from the Win 2000 CD, you can delete your current partition
with 2K and XP and setup will guide you through the creation and format of
the empty space.
You can also create a set of floppies from the Win 2000 CD to do the same
thing as booting from the CD.
Click on the link below, or copy and paste the link into the address box
if using the web based newsgroup.

Greetings --

If you want to replace WinXP with an earlier OS, you're certainly
entitled to do so, as long as you've purchased a legitimate copy of
that earlier OS.

To replace WinXP with an earlier OS, you'll have to boot from the
appropriate boot disk, format the hard drive, and install. There is
no supported downgrade path or technique.

Simply boot from the Win2K or WinXP installation CD. You'll be
offered the opportunity to delete, create, and/or format the system
partition as part of the installation process. (You may need to
re-arrange the order of boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the
CD.)
