I need to delete a registry item but XP by default turns this funtion off. I
get an "Error While Deleting Key" message when attempting to delet a folder.

How do I turn it ON?

Thanks

There isn't anything that needs to de turned "on", but you do have to have
sufficient security privledges to modify or delete a key. Are you signed in
as an Administrator, or are you running under a Limited User account and
trying to delete a key your account doesn't have access to?

I'm the only user. I sign in under my name. Do you think I need to sign in
as the 'Administrator' would that make a difference? I assume I AM the
administrator. When I view the permissions of my account they seem to
include everything. I even logged in in safe mode to no avail.
How do I login as Administrator?

Cannot delete …. Error while deleting key.

[[CAUSE
When dealing with a Windows NT bases computer (NT, 2000, XP, 2003, etc),
this is normally caused by the currently logged in user not having
permissions to modify or delete the key. Some keys will not allow any user
to modify or delete them.]]

What key is it you are trying to delete? If yours is the only account then
you should be an Administrator. Is the below error message all that is said
in the message or is there more information?

make sure this is not a spyware key. if it is you may have to start your pc
in safe made and then use regedit.

That is all that the error message said. I had another account on this
system but recently removed it. Could this be related. The key I'm tring to
delete is WinFax Pro's "Delrina". I can't install the update version without
removing the old version and the older version's uninstall is corrupted. So
I'm trying to remove it manually.

Thanks
