Hi,

I have a laptop (Windows XP) which is part of a network. On logging in, I
get a command window popping up and it closes after a while. How can I turn
this off and where do I write any closing script to prevent this command
window popping up whenever I log into the machine.

Thanks.

The command window you see is probably the logon script.
Talk to your network administrator about making it go away
faster.

There is a setting in the Group (and Domain?) Policy:

\User Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Scripts\Run logon
scripts visible

Have your admin set this to Disabled.

You could try to set this in the Local Computer policy and see if it
works (assuming it is Not Configured in the Group / Domain).

If you need help running MMC and getting to the correct place, email
me.
